Janet Jackson born as Janet Damita Jo Jackson on May 16th, 1966 in Gary, Indiana is a multi-faceted talented American artist. The mellifluous singer is also a well-known lyricist, composer, record producer, choreographer, dancer, and an actress. She won several awards including Grammy besides being nominated for an Oscar.
Janet is the youngest of the nine children born to Joseph and Katherine Jackson. Dreamt of becoming a jockey, Janet began performing at a very young age in night clubs and theatres along with her five older brothers known as Jackson 5. By the time she reached eight, Janet Jackson has already become a star with her dazzling performance at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on April 9th, 1974, where she was joined by her eight older siblings at the show. Gradually making rapid strides in her career, sixteen-year-old Janet released her self-titled debut album, "Janet Jackson" in 1982.
Her "Black Cat" in 1990 topped the charts with its singles reaching the #1 position on the Billboard Hot 100 and Mainstream Rock single charts. Hopping from music to films, Janet, in July of 1993, made her grand debut in movies with "Poetic Justice" directed by John Singleton. Later in 2000 she starred alongside Eddie Murphy in "Nutty Professor II: The Klumps" and essayed the role of a Professor Denise Gaines.
Her strenuous efforts and hard work has taken her career to the heights of successes. Her soaring popularity was much in evidence when in 2006 she entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the "Most Searched in Internet History", and the "Most Searched for News Item". When this sensuous beauty hit the cover of US Weekly in June 2006, it became the biggest selling issue and outsold the earlier issues in which Angelina Jolie and Jessica Simpson appeared on the cover.
Her latest movie, "Why did I Get Married" being directed by Tyler Perry is slated to be released on November 16th, 2007. "Rush Hour 3" is also due for release on August 10th of 2007 in which she had a number.
Janet Jackson who enthralled millions of music lovers worldwide including her legion of fans has occupied the ninth slot among the most successful artist in the history of Rock'n'Roll and also earned the honor of being the second most successful female recording artist of all time in the US according to Billboard.
